What is eye-tracking?
Eye tracking is a research tool that tells you how, when, and where people looked by recording and observing eye behavior such as pupil movement and dilation. With eye tracking software you can analyze people’s behavior and evaluate the performances of products, images, environments and other visual objects. This technology is used to reveal insights about people’s behavior in many fields such as market research and commercial testing.
How does eye-tracking work?
Eye-tracking is a straightforward process and starts with sending out near-infrared light. At the same time, the light is reflected in your eyes. Those reflections are picked up by cameras from the eye tracker. For pupil dilation, the eye tracker measures pupil sizes using video images taken by cameras. In order to work as accurately as possible, the system must know more about your eyes, so for gaze locations, the eye tracker uses a calibration process to map eye movements into location subjects.
Combine eye-tracking with facial expressions
Eye tracking is a good way of measuring visual attention with high precision. This technology can be used for many different applications but its primary function is measuring where people look. Facial expression recognition is great for measuring emotions, which is a more abstract measure of the positivity or negativity of the emotional expression. These two technologies can extract and combine more metrics with higher levels of validity.
